The Federal Statistical Office (FSO) has conducted the Swiss Labour Force Survey (SLFS) on an annual basis. The purpose of this survey is to obtain data about working life and the labour market in general. The SLFS is based on a representative sample of 48 000 people in order to avoid the overly costly alternative of conducting a complete survey of the entire Swiss population. The term “economically active persons” refers to employed and unemployed persons. This concept is also expressed in economic terms as “labour supply”. Unemployed persons (ILO-based) The term “unemployed persons” refers to people aged 15-74 who: were not gainfully employed during the reference week, were actively looking for work during the previous four weeks, and were available for work. The definition used by Switzerland's State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (seco) differs from the ILO-based one indicated above. SECO's definition is based on the number of unemployed persons registered with regional job placement offices. For this reason, the number of unemployed persons reported by the SLFS and SECO do not match. Unemployment rate = Unemployed persons / Economically active persons.

For short term indicators, the cycles that are relevant for the economic trends and which by definition have periodicities longer than one year, are generally affected by considerable short-term fluctuations (trend, economic fluctuations, seasonal fluctuations, calendar fluctuations, residual or irregular fluctuations). As a consequence, analysing the current business-cycle phase is quite difficult. To improve the accuracy of the economic trend analyses, it is common to apply mathematical filtering techniques to remove such fluctuations from the time series.

It summarizes the flow of all goods, services, income, and transfer payments to and from Germany. Current Account includes the trade balance (exports and imports for goods and services), income payments (such as interest, dividends and salaries) and unilateral transfers (aid, taxes, and one-way gifts). Current account is one of the three components (Financial Account, Capital Account and Current Account) that make up a country's Balance of Payments, the detailed accounting of all international interactions. A rising surplus indicates that foreigners are buying more of the domestic currency to execute transactions in the country.

The German foreign trade statistics describe the cross-border trading of goods between the Federal Republic of Germany and other countries. The cross-border trading of goods is presented in a breakdown by general trade and special trade. General trade, as a rule, covers all goods moved into or moved out of Germany. Basically, special trade only covers goods that are imported into Germany for use, consumption, treatment or processing, and goods exported that were produced, treated or processed in the country. The difference between general and special trade consists mainly in (not) covering imports and exports via (customs and free zone) warehouses.

The start of construction is defined in terms of the construction work as a whole and not particular housing units within it. A housing unit is a dwelling place forming a single unit with a separate entrance. Housing starts data are collected in a monthly full-scope survey of urban centres of more than 10 000 inhabitants which were enumerated in the Census of 1996. For urban centres of less than 10 000 inhabitants, the number of housing starts are derived from a statistical model. Data refer to number of new houses and multiple dwellings, intended for permanent residence.

Money Supply M2 is a Money stock index. The Money stock indices are basically defined as the quantity of money held by money holders (corporations, individuals, and local governments including municipal enterprises). Corporations exclude depository institutions, insurance companies, government financial institutions, securities companies, Tanshi companies, etc. Deposits, etc. held by financial institutions and the central government are not included. М2 = cash currency in circulation + deposits. The money issuers are: Bank of Japan, domestically licensed banks (excluding Japan Post Bank), foreign banks in Japan, Shinkin Central Bank, shinkin banks, Norinchukin Bank, and Shoko Chukin Bank. As regards M2 and M3, the differences between the two series mainly derive from the differences in the range of money holders and the estimation method of some data. Apart from that, M2 and 'M2+CDs (former series)' have the same range of money issuers and financial assets (except for nonresident yen deposits). Similarly, M3 and 'M3+CDs - money trusts (former series)' have the same range of money issuers and financial assets (except for nonresident yen deposits). This is the percentage change compared with the corresponding period in the previous year.

A survey of the current state of the business sector in Australia. Based on a survey of 350 of small to large sized companies, the National Australia Bank delivers monthly and quarterly reports from statistical data. The companies are asked about forward orders, trading conditions, export sales, profits, capital spending and employment. A reading higher than zero indicates companies expecting their industry to improve outnumber those predicting a deterioration. The quarterly version tends to have more impact due to a larger sample size and additional questions regarding expectations.
