- 🇺🇸 - US stocks gained on Tuesday as investors brushed aside worries about new trade measures against Canada, even as Canada announced new retaliatory tariffs on US goods. Markets also continued to weigh looming Nvidia ($NVDA) earnings and predictions for Kevin Warsh's first Jackson Hole speech as Fed chair.

- Nvidia stock rose 2% ahead of its highly anticipated quarterly results due out tomorrow, snapping a seven day losing streak.

- The US and Canada have ratcheted up their rhetoric, they have left oil off the table for now, even as they raise tariffs on steel, dairy, and other products.

- The price of bitcoin, meanwhile, briefly surged above $80,000 for the first time in three months after the Treasury's intervention in the bond market revived concerns about dollar debasement, sending investors to alternative assets. Gold too, continued its march higher.

- DICK's Sporting Goods ($DKS) stock sank 30% after the retailer missed second quarter expectations and cut its full-year outlook due to challenging conditions in the athletic marketplace.

- The latest economic data releases showed that both new home sales and a measure of consumer confidence fell to their lowest levels since January as cost of living pressures weighed on consumers.

- The Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 rose by 0.3%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced by 0.6%, recovering from Monday's tech declines.
The 10-year Treasury yield dropped 6 basis points to 4.63%, while the 30-year yield fell to 5.17%.

- 🇬🇧 - The FTSE 100 edged 0.3% higher on Tuesday, extending its winning streak to six sessions, its longest run since May.

- 🇪🇺 - European stocks closed slightly higher on Tuesday, trimming losses from recent sessions with rebounds from AI infrastructure companies and manufacturers. The Euro STOXX 50 added 0.2% and the STOXX Europe 600 added 0.4%.

- 🇯🇵🇨🇳 - The Nikkei 225 Index rose 0.5% while the broader Topix Index gained 0.5%, reversing earlier losses.
The Shanghai Composite rose 0.19%, while the Shenzhen Component slipped 0.35% to a near one month low.

I have a feeling about Nvidia this time.

We all know the usual pattern: Nvidia crushes expectations, and then the stock gets hit anyway. But this time, the sentiment feels different. Instead of rockets and “Nvidia to the moon” memes, people seem much more cautious and tired of falling into the same trap.

So, considering the market loves doing the opposite of what everyone expects… what if Nvidia actually goes up this time?

The “beat → dump” pattern is so well known now that maybe the real surprise would be breaking it.

Since every time at market open, people cheer when they see green or get desperate when they see red, some info and why the saying ""Let the market settle."  is important:

At market open, the first candle reflects an influx of market orders, overnight news, and automated algorithms resolving previous orders that have been collected. This creates high volatility which is reflected to filling gaps. In case of certain markets, e.g. Korean, this includes *all* orders made 30 mins before market opens (hence, why you see Korean stocks jumping up or down the moment they open).

Also, unfortunately, institutions will use this time to push and trigger Stop-Loss Orders and close options. They do this both for other institutions and for retails. This is what we call a liquidity sweep. When this happens, the liquidity is filled and the price frequently reverses sharply in the opposite direction like today.

The second  15-mins candle is much more representative of the direction of the day. Usually, a second red candle means a drop for sure. A green second candle, like now, could still be a bull trap so the third candle will confirm our direction.

Global physically backed gold ETFs attracted $6.4 billion in inflows last week, their largest weekly intake since January.

North America led the way with $4.4 billion, followed by European funds with $1.7 billion, while Asia attracted $300 million.

This was also the third largest weekly inflow on record and marked the seventh consecutive week of inflows.

Over this seven week period, global gold backed ETFs have attracted a total of $16.4 billion.

Meanwhile, total assets under management (AUM) in global gold ETFs increased by $33 billion last week to $615 billion, reaching their highest level since the second week of May.

*The global gold rush appears to be gathering pace, investors are pouring billions into gold, signalling strong demand for protection amid market uncertainty. This could provide further support for gold and gold mining shares, while the scale of the inflows suggests investors are becoming more cautious towards riskier assets.*
