*Yesterday's overview* 📉📈👀
- 🇺🇸 - US stocks lost steam on Tuesday as a fresh round of US airstrikes on Iran sent oil prices higher, while a bond market sell-off and speculation about the Fed's next interest rate move kept buyers on the sidelines.

- Stocks entered September with double digit year to date returns and earnings expectations that continue to rise. However, volatile oil prices and the potential return of Fed rate hikes have given investors reason to worry heading into the historically weakest month for stocks.

- Palo Alto Networks Inc ($PANW) reported fiscal fourth-quarter revenue and profit that topped analyst estimates, as the cybersecurity company closed out its fiscal year with a nearly $1 billion jump in net new next generation security annual recurring revenue.
Revenue came in at $3.41 billion, versus estimates of $3.35 billion, up 34% year over year. Adjusted earnings per share were $1.02, up 7% from a year earlier and ahead of the $0.98 analysts had expected.

- The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) showed job openings ticked up slightly in July, a somewhat stable read on hiring ahead of Friday's monthly jobs report. Data from the Institute for Supply Management showed that US manufacturing activity expanded for the eighth month in a row, though the sector's rate of expansion slowed just slightly.

- The Dow Jones Industrial Average slid nearly 0.8%, while the S&P 500 also lost roughly 0.7%. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was down more than 1% after stocks closed August with solid gains.
US bond yields continued their march higher on Tuesday, with the 10-year yield rising to 4.79%, its highest intraday level since January 2025. The 30-year climbed to 5.27%, hovering near multi-decade highs.

- 🇬🇧 - The FTSE 100 fell 0.4% on Tuesday, although it outperformed the Euro Stoxx 50. Mining stocks were among the biggest decliners, with Endeavour and Fresnillo dropping more than 5% each as gold and silver prices retreated.

- 🇪🇺 - Euro Area Stock Market Index (EU600) traded at 647.46, decreasing 0.56% since the previous trading session. 

- 🇯🇵🇨🇳 - The Nikkei 225 Index fell 0.15%, while the broader Topix Index rose 0.62%, with Japanese shares struggling for momentum as rising global bond yields and higher oil prices heightened concerns over inflation and interest rate hikes.
The Shanghai Composite fell 0.16%, while the Shenzhen Component lost 1.02% on the first trading day of September, as escalating tensions in the Middle East overshadowed improving signals from China's manufacturing sector.

*A very weak start to the month, a month known to be usually poor in performance, but this time compounded by almost nearly unsustainable bond yields, rising inflation, probable further rate hikes, mixed to poor economic data and geo political instability. I intend to wait to make my monthly purchases and see where these drops lead us as mid month we should see the Eurozone, the Bank of England and the FED make decisions on whether to raise interest rates or not. Markets may be pricing in the news for now.*

Does Salesforce have much more to run?
Well.. *probably* (I use that word carefully).

Salesforce has seen a huge turn around in share price (yellow arrow) after they changed the narrative that AI was going to destroy their business.

In fact, it now looks more likely that AI will support the business and may even be a net benefit for most SAAS companies.

The graph shows that Salesforce has now raised guidance for next year and the expected EPS has adjusted (purple arrow). The rest of the orange line is a trend that analysts haven't caught up with yet, but with the new guidance we could conclude that these EPS expectations are now lower than expected.

This is good for this graph though, as the more we can under estimate, the better the perceived margin of safety and potentially the better stock return.

Things look very good for Salesforce here, if the change in narrative holds and Salesforce stays rated as a normal business growing around 16% per year, at 17x earnings in 5 years you could possibly earn 140% total return with a disproportionate risk to the downside.

If Salesforce becomes rerated back to "tech stock" status that 226% total return in 5 years at 25x earnings, bagging you 24.33% per year, vastly outperforming the index average.

This tool is for using current and estimated earnings to give general direction of where the stock price might go over the mid-term and giving an idea of the risk that someone might be taking if they were to buy at current prices.

I shared this on Discord the other day, and it was appreciated as a tool, but then I thought that many of you on here may not have realised I have updated the tool now (or maybe never even knew I had it in the first place!)

It's a really simple tool; there are just four boxes to fill in (others are optional):

- *Starting Amount* – how much money you're beginning with (put £0 if starting from scratch).

- *Added Each Month* – how much you'll add every month, e.g. £100.

- *Annual Return (assumed)* – the yearly growth rate you expect, as a percentage. Something like 7-8% is a common guess for long-term stock market investing after inflation.

- *Years Invested* – how long you'll leave the money to grow, e.g. 20 or whatever, up to you.

Just thought I would share my thoughts on the future and potential for AST.
AST will win the D2D race but the potential is much much more. This is because of the extremely powerful satellites they have that are nearly 10 times more powerful than the latest Space X satellites.......this is where the potential will be beyond D2D and government contracts. Elon Musk has made it clear he is pushing for data centres in space because of the astronomical costs of cooling them on earth. They are presently working on chips to withstand radiation and with the AI boom comes massive amounts of data and the need for much more data centres.
Because all this data which is beemed back to earth by satellites by lazer the Satellites need to be very powerful and AST will already have an array of the most powerful satellites in space. If they can tap into that market this will be one of the biggest companies on the planet. Just my opinion.

The reference period for S&P inclusion is market open, two days prior to the announcement date. That'd make it tomorrow morning.

I don't think SOFI meets the eligibility criteria for market cap by tomorrow unfortunately - we'd need to see the share price around the  $17.60 - $17.70 mark.

Even if they WERE to meet the requirements, there are probably other companies that make more sense for S&P Global to consider before SOFI, being honest (as much as I'd prefer them to choose SOFI 😃😅).

Even in FinTech specifically, you could make the argument $AFRM would be more deserving of inclusion at present! Different business models, but both always been strong performers. SOFI has usually been the better of the two IMO - better profits, better growth etc, but from S&P Global's POV, sure, both have been profitable TTM, but SOFI have 3x quarters of stagnant (/decreasing) profitability Vs AFRM's continued acceleration... plus AFRM sit more comfortably above the market cap threshold.

Now, this is all easily explained - SOFI management are notorious for putting the long term vision above everything else, including their own stock comp! (their earlier election to raise capital to bolster the biz was no doubt a contributing factor behind the change in sentiment near ATHs & the resulting failure to close on 2/3rs of their performance stock units worth 100s of millions of $$ between them. Obviously the broader macro was the main reason, but they will have made these decisions KNOWING it'd harm their own chances of securing those payouts!)

This time is no different. They front-loaded costs in the first half of this year necessary for the launch of their new products / services (SOFIUSD, big biz banking etc) KNOWING these would weigh heavily on profitability & worsen their deserved valuation in the short term, all because they believe the benefits these short term sacrifices will bring will be worth it in the LONG TERM.

As a quick aside, they actually were upfront with investors about their spend - when they issued their medium term outlook back in '23 or '24 (too lazy to check, sorry lol), they gave $0.55 - $0.80 as an EPS range NOT ACCOUNTING FOR THE IMPACT OF NEW BUSINESS LINES. Most investors, myself included, largely assumed new business lines would contribute POSITIVELY towards those EPS numbers, but ofc bringing new products to market is usually more costly than it is lucrative in the immediate term, so they're incurring all of these additional costs yet STILL aiming to deliver $0.60 EPS for FY26.

If those costs by extension reduce the likelihood of S&P inclusion this quarter, then so be it. I'm not holding for S&P inclusion. I'm holding for the disruption of legacy finance as that story plays out over the next 10 - 20 years and beyond.

SOFI remains my #1 holding, by position size as well as by level of conviction over the long term. They shall continue to move from strength to strength IMO and as these once again start impacting the bottom line in the back half of the year, I'd expect to see the share price follow suit, but between Trump's war in the ME and the Fed's uncertainty around rate direction, who knows whether the market plays ball! 😅

$CRDO dropped ~20% in a single day to around $165 mainly after JPMorgan cut its price target from $335 to $310.

This looks more like a valuation reset than a change in the long-term story. At $165, I think CRDO offers a very attractive entry point for the long term, especially if growth continues as expected.

My Fomo side is saying go all in or nothing while My risk managing is saying NO!!
