Fairly uneducated on currency

Whilst i’d like to think i’m very aware about investing, one thing i struggle to understand is the behaviour of currency. Today Cash ISA allowance was cut along with many changes etc, which to me is negative towards the uk economy, yet the pound rises against the dollar and my us stock investments suffer. I've been using Trading 212 with it's Android mobile app for a few weeks. Stock and Shares ISA and SIPP accounts were extremely easy to set up. I also got a free fractional share as a bonus. It provides access to a vast range of financial products. Probably the only downside is that the amount of available investment choices can be overwhelming especially for new investors. Having the ability to reduce access to some categories would probably improve the user experience.
